Just down the street from our current build is this older adobe home. The owners have entrusted us with many projects on their home over the last couple years, and it has been a joy to see the transformations. These French-inspired patio doors have been long in the making. The original door was just 6′ 4″, off-centered in a dark hallway, and when open partially blocked the doorway next to it. We enlarged the opening, adding a new lintel and relaying the exterior brick. We made the 7′ tall narrow stile double doors in our shop, out of African mahogany, with stave core construction for the stiles and true divided lites. In keeping with the European inspiration, we used a multipoint lock and cremone surface bolt for the passive door. It was especially gratifying to dig out the old “before” pictures for this project.
