It’s not much to look at yet, but this is an exciting step for us. Our adobe house build is finally starting! Getting our project through permitting was slower and a lot more bureaucratic than we were anticipating, but at last work has begun. This is our first permitted project within city limits. We’ve had some previous experience with the Bernalillo County permits office, and they’ve always been easy to work with, super helpful, and *open* during covid. Albuquerque, we love you, but man you could have made this process easier! (Constructive criticism for the city: update your building permit checklist to include hydrology department requirements, get rid of ePLAN, and fix all the broken and outdated links on your website). We’re looking forward to documenting this build here on Instagram. New adobe construction has become increasingly rare in Albuquerque, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue this architectural tradition into the future. Kenny, Nathan, and myself (Esther) all grew up in the North Valley, so it is especially meaningful to get to design and build a house that that we feel truly *belongs* here. It will be situated alongside the ditches and cottonwoods and all the natural beauty of the valley, and made of mud. #adobehouse #dayone #designbuild #adobearchitecture #adobeconstruction #abqcontractor #adobebuilder #newmexicoadobe #northvalleyabq #greenbuilding
