Here are some recent progress photos of our project. All the mud plaster in the house has been painted with a clay paint (we use @biosheildpaint for this), and the brick floors laid and swept with sand to lock them in. Kenny’s exterior doors are all in, including that tricky triple door for the barn (an active passage door, plus a bifold). Meanwhile, our stucco subcontractor, Duran Plastering, has also been working on site. The scratch and brown stucco coats are finished while we continue to mull over what the final color should be. They’ve done such a thoughtful and clean job, especially around all those exposed rafters. This week the window trim is being put, and tile laid for the showers. We’re using some fun Mexican tile from (@talavera.casa, an Albuquerque Old Town establishment!) for this project. Some might think (perhaps just because of the internet algorithms?) that Mexican tile has fallen a bit out of favor lately, but we’re of the opinion that handmade finishes never go out of style. It’s been fun to add a bit of whimsy to this project. Back at the shop, we’re gluing up the Siberian elm butcher block countertop. It’s been kind of a wild and crazy experiment, (definitely not the easiest way to get a countertop built!) but we’re excited to show it off soon. Planning work is underway for the next project as well– it’s a stretch to build one house and design the next simultaneously, but we’re so pleased with how the plans are shaping up. Look out for another North Valley adobe springing up this fall! #adobehouse #adobeconstruction #exposedadobe #mexicantile #losgriegos #adobearchitecture #finehomebuilding #handmadehouse #earthenmasonry #albuquerquearchitecture #northvalleyabq
