Today was a big day for the house, with lots of extra hands on deck. The concrete slab was poured early this morning, encasing the under-floor radiant heat system. Radiant heat is a natural choice for adobe construction, because it takes advantage of the thermal mass of the adobe walls and the brick floors. Like adobe, it is also quiet — this house will have just a small high efficiency boiler in the utility/laundry room keeping the floors warm in the wintertime. After the slab there is one additional course of 10″ block that gets laid on top of the stem walls to bring the adobe up off the finished floor. The brick floor will be laid next, and covered with sand to protect it while the adobe walls go up. Many thanks to our slab subcontractor, Joel, and his crew, @roadrunnerredimix, and Hernandez Concrete Pumping! #concreteslab #radiantheat #adobe #adobeconstruction #adobehouse #abqhomes #designbuild #abqcontractor #howitsmade
