ADOBE – one of our favorite parts of any build – is underway. It is HOT outside but, except for our own comfort, it makes for perfect adobe laying weather. For the exterior corner story poles we’re trying something new and using angle iron, facing outward from the corner. On the barn/workshop structure, the exterior adobe *is* the finished surface, so this arrangement allows us to tool the mortar all the way to the exterior corner for a clean look. We’re also hoping that they’ll move less than 2×4 story poles tend to. We’ve welcomed quite a few new faces to our job site in the month of July. We took on three interns from the @sfccnm Adobe Construction Program, who are each spending 40 hours working on our project for college credit. Additionally, the Albuquerque Joinery team – adoberos Kenny DeLapp, Nathan Demar, and Erik Navarro – are teaching an upcoming workshop sponsored by the nonprofit, @adobeinaction. Six participants will receive hands-on training in adobe wall construction, mixing mortar and laying adobes for the build. We look forward to more partnerships with these organizations in service of our shared goals of promoting the continuation of traditional adobe construction in New Mexico. #adobes #adobeconstruction #storypoles #adoberos #mudbrick #masonry #adobehouse #designbuild #newmexicoarchitecture #abqcontractor #earthenbuilding #abqrealestate #nmtrue #homeconstruction #greenbuilding #mudhouse #adobebuilder
